Marrakech airport to the Palmeraie

Twelve kilometres, twenty to thirty minutes, and no bus that goes there. Here is what the journey costs, how long it really takes, and why the Palmeraie is the one part of Marrakech where arranging the car in advance genuinely matters.

Where the Palmeraie is

The Palmeraie is a palm grove spread across the north-east edge of Marrakech — tens of thousands of palms, and among them the resorts, villas and boutique riads people fly in for. It sits about 12 km from Menara airport and roughly 8 km from Jemaa el-Fna. Distance is the easy part. The grove is large and low-density: properties stand hundreds of metres apart, many at the end of unpaved tracks with no street lighting and no signage.

Why arriving is harder than the distance suggests

  • No public transport reaches it. Bus 19 runs between the airport, Gueliz and the Medina — it does not serve the Palmeraie.
  • Petit taxis run on the meter inside the city. The Palmeraie sits at that edge and beyond it, so you are negotiating a price rather than watching a meter.
  • There is no Uber or Bolt anywhere in Morocco, so there is no app to fall back on.
  • Addresses are approximate. Mapping apps will often put you on the right track and at the wrong property — a problem at midnight with luggage.

Your three options

Grand taxi

Negotiated at the airport rank. Usually more than the metered equivalent, because the driver is leaving the city and may return empty. There is no fixed price until you agree one.

The hotel car

Most Palmeraie properties will send one if you ask. Reliable, and normally the most expensive of the three.

Private transfer, booked ahead

A fixed price agreed before you fly, a driver waiting at arrivals with your name, and — the part that matters most here — a driver who already knows where the property is.

Questions people ask

How far is the Palmeraie from Marrakech airport?

About 12 km by road, which takes 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic and where in the grove you are staying.

Is there a bus from Marrakech airport to the Palmeraie?

No. Bus 19 covers the airport, Gueliz and the Medina only. The Palmeraie has no public transport at all.

How much is a taxi from Marrakech airport to the Palmeraie?

There is no meter for this route, so the fare is negotiated. A fixed-price private transfer is 20 € for up to four passengers, or 24 € for a van carrying up to seven, agreed before you land.

Will a taxi find my Palmeraie hotel at night?

Not always. Many properties sit at the end of unlit, unpaved tracks with no signs, and mapping apps are unreliable between them. A driver who has been there before is worth more here than anywhere else in Marrakech.

Book the Palmeraie transfer

Fixed price, confirmed before you fly. We track the flight, the driver waits at arrivals holding your name, and the car goes to the door — not to the nearest paved road.
